House of Shame ist eine Queer-Party in Berlin, die in jeder Donnerstagnacht Disco Dancing und Live Acts bietet. Jeden Donnerstag einen anderen. Und das seit 10 Jahren. 

Chantal ist die Veranstalterin dieser Party – seit 10 Jahren.
Davor ging sie 17 Jahre auf dem Transenstrich anschaffen.
Chantal ist transsexuell.
Eine Underground-Legende

Für mich war und ist Chantals House of Shame Berlins Hole Lotta Love, ein Loch voll Liebe, einfach die Party für die beste Zeit des Tages: Die Zeit nach Weltuntergang.

Ich habe in all den 10 Jahren, anfangs mit größeren Unterbrechungen, später fast regelmäßig dort photographiert. Ich bin keine Party-Photographin. Aber Exzess und Weltuntergang sind zwei gute Bekannte von mir. In dieser Zeit sind an die 60.000 Negative entstanden, analoge und digitale. 60.000 mal the decisive moment, ganz emphatisch im Sinne Henri Cartier-Bressons, der entscheidende Augenblick – oder doch der Versuch, ihn zu treffen. – Wieder und wieder. – Bis wir anfingen, einen Film zu drehen:

House of Shame / Chantal All Night Long.

Fast ein monumentaler Historienschinken – die Vorgeschichte der Party mitgerechnet umgreift der Film einen Zeitraum von 30 Jahren, fast das Leben einer Generation, fast der Soundtrack einer Generation, fast die ganze Gewalt und die ganze Leidenschaft …

Fast ein Road Movie, ständig unterwegs auf der Flucht durch die Nacht, fast ein Film Noir – man kommt kaum heraus aus den betonierten Kellern und den unterirdischen Gängen der Stadt; und ganz die Geschichte eines Lebens, Chantals, und ihres trotzigen Traums vom Leben.
Ein sehr persönlicher Film.

Der Film wird im Herbst 2010 erscheinen.

ENGLISH VERSION:

House of Shame is a queer party in Berlin, offering disco dancing and live acts every Thursday night. A different one every Thursday, for ten years now.

Chantal is the organizer of the party and its host – for ten years now.
Before, she was a working girl, streetwalking on trannie’s patch.
Chantal is a transsexual.
An underground legend.

To me Chantal’s House of Shame was and still is a Hole Lotta Love – simply the party for the best time of day: the time after the Deluge.

Over the ten years I have photographed the House of Shame party and its people. I am no “party photographer” though – but Excess and Deluge are two of my best known companions. During the whole time about 60.000 negatives have been exposed, analog as well as digital. A sixty thousand times the decisive moment as Henri Cartier-Bresson would have put it, or at least the attempt to capture it. – Again and again, until finally we started shooting a film – the feature-length musical documentary

House of Shame / Chantal All Night Long
